Industry Security Guidance
Since September 11, 2001, API and its member companies have been working hard to protect oil and natural gas facilities around the world from the possibility of terrorist attack. Bolstering this effort are two API documents produced in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies: is now in its second edition. And Security Vulnerability Assessment for the Petroleum and Petrochemical Industries, published jointly with the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association, has also been updated.
API has also published API Recommended Practice 70, Security for Offshore Oil and Natural Gas Operations which provides guidelines for managers of offshore facilities to evaluate their unique security vulnerabilities, and Pipeline SCADA Security, standards for monitoring oil pipelines. Both are available through API’s online publications catalog.
