Exploring America's Energy Future
The U.S. needs a balanced energy policy that promotes energy efficiency and conservation and greater supplies of all forms of energy, including domestic oil and natural gas. Access to oil and natural gas resources from federal lands and waters is critical to supplying the energy needs of American consumers, businesses and homeowners. While we may never achieve “energy independence”, the good news is that we have energy resources here in the U.S. and North America that can meet a significant portion of America’s energy requirements. And, through the efforts of men and women in the oil and natural gas industry, we’re continuing to discover new resources.
It is in the American interest:
- to produce American energy resources, to provide the oil and natural gas our economy will continue to require;
- to offset the importation of energy fuels that affects our trade deficit;
- and to generate revenues that contribute to the federal treasury, and investment in energy development that benefits our economy.
