Reducing Emissions Worldwide

Chevron is leading several billion-dollar efforts to reduce gas flaring from our operations in Africa.

The Escravos natural gas plant in Nigeria can process about 300 million cubic feet per day of gas that otherwise would be flared. Chevron and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation are committed to increasing capacity to nearly 400 million cubic feet of gas through future projects.

Chevron plans to construct a natural gas pipeline connecting Nigeria with Benin, Togo and Ghana. This project could reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 100 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) over its 20-year life.

In Angola, Chevron operates a floating production, processing, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel and offshore oil production platforms that re-inject, rather than flare, associated natural gas, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

These and other Angolan projects are expected to reduce flaring 50 percent by the end of 2004.
