U.S. Carbon Dioxide Emissions 2008
The U.S. Energy Information Administration's report, U.S. Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Energy Sources 2008 Flash Estimate, indicates that U.S. energy-related CO2 emissions declined by 2.8 percent compared to 1.1 percent growth in GDP. Factors that contributed to the decline in emissions included energy prices and lower economic growth. Total energy consumption in 2008 fell by 2.2 percent.
A study by ICF International, Addendum to Impact Assessement of Mandatory GHG Control Legislation, indicates that climate legislation pending in Congress could significantly reduce clean-burning natural gas production and send refining production and jobs overseas.
